1. Brightness — match it to where the screen lives
This is the #1 thing buyers get wrong.
Indoor, away from windows: 300–500 nits is fine.
- Window-facing / shopfront: 1,500–2,500+ nits or it washes out in daylight.
- Direct sunlight / outdoor: 2,500–5,000 nits, and it must be a proper outdoor-rated (IP66) unit.
- A 400-nit "smart TV" in a sunny window is unreadable by 10am. Don't do it.
2. Panel type & resolution
IPS gives wider viewing angles — better for signage people walk past.
- 4K matters for close-range menus/text; for a wall-mounted loop 10+ feet away, 1080p is often enough and cheaper.
- Commercial panels are 24/7 rated — a consumer TV is not and will develop banding/burn-in.
- 3. SoC vs external player
4. Orientation, touch, CMS
Many commercial displays have a built-in SoC (Android/Linux) that runs signage software directly — no PC hanging off the back. Simpler, fewer failure points. For heavy interactivity/kiosk logic, pair with a small player.Plan portrait vs landscape before you buy — some panels are portrait-optimized.
- Touch (10-point PCAP) only if interactive (kiosk, queue).
- A CMS lets you push content, schedule, and monitor fleet health remotely. For 1 screen optional; for 3+ it's a lifesaver.
- 5. Certifications (if you import)
Quick spec matrix
For EU/US resale: CE, FCC, RoHS at minimum; ISO 9001 from the factory is a good quality-signal proxy.Use case

What brightness do I need for a window display?
Not necessarily — many commercial displays include a built-in SoC (Android/Linux) that runs CMS software directly.
Do I need a PC to run signage?
Consumer TVs are not 24/7 rated and develop banding/burn-in under continuous signage use.
Why not use a consumer TV?
CE, FCC, RoHS at minimum for EU/US resale; ISO 9001 signals factory quality management.
Which certifications matter for import?
CE, FCC, RoHS at minimum for EU/US resale; ISO 9001 signals factory quality management.
